Amazing. It looks so far as if p squared commutes with x and x squared for the particle in a box and with x squared for the harmonic oscillator solutions of Schroedinger tried so far, but p does not. The hamiltonian operator of the Schroedinger equation is as you know p squared / (2m). Usually, when the hamiltonian operator commutes with an operator, that operator is said to be a constant of motion. It would be most important to continue this work with the other exact solutions of the Schroedinger equation, there is a pattern emerging which has never been seen before as far as I know. Peter Atkins (who is being bcc’ed these messages) does not seem to have these results ins his book.
