There is a very nice youtube of this played on the organ of Sydney City Hall, which is a magnificent instrument with four keyboards. My cousin Roy Havard played this on the organ of Elim Baptist Chapel and Prof. Eckardt played the opening few bars on it during his visit. My ancestor Bishop William Thomas Havard had an ecumenical view to society, if these chapels are sold for scrap then “Intellectual disgrace / Stares form every human face” in the words of W. H. Auden. The poet R. S. Thomas also heavily criticised the mentality that would lead to this state of affairs, the selling of heritage and language for scrap value. The same decadent condition is seen in standard physics, which to me is no longer science at all at a time when funds are needed urgently elsewhere.
