My Relation to the Poets Henry Vaughan and George Herbert

The attached chart gives my relation to these two great metaphysical poets of the seventeenth century. They were both descended from the daughter of Sir Dafydd Gam as shown. Dafydd Gam was descended from Einion Saes ap Rhys, (the ancestor of the Countess of Wessex), who was descended from Trahaearn ap Gwgon (b. 1130), the brother of my ancestor Cydifor ap Gwgon (b. 1133) Lord of Glyntawe, where Craig y Nos Castle is situated. Gwgon was the grandson of Prince Bleddyn ap Maenarch (1024 – 1093) of Brycheiniog. Dylan Thomas based his “Over Sir John’s Hill” (circa 1948) on these poets and John Donne (Dwn) of “For whom the bell tolls”.
